Welcome to dehistory.org (referred to as “DHS site” or “site”), the website of the Delaware Historical Society (referred to as “DHS,” “we,” or “us”). We are committed to ensuring the privacy and security of your personal information.

Overview

DHS collects information from site visitors at different points on this website. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we may receive or collect when you are using our website. Your use our website or provision of personal information to DHS as described below constitutes your consent to the terms and conditions of this Privacy Policy.

This notice applies to all Delaware Historical Society websites and all information submitted to the website and through third parties with your consent.

Information You Provide Us

We collect both PII (Personally Identifiable Information), or Personal Data, and non-PII (data that is anonymous), or Usage Data. Personal data is used only for its intended purpose and when you voluntarily provide it directly to us.

Personal Data

You will be asked for information to receive email communications, register for events or tours, complete contact forms and applications, submit feedback reports, or participate in surveys and evaluations. Types of personal information collected varies but can include:

  • First and last name
  • Email address
  • Name of recipient/s of gift memberships (if applicable)
  • Spouse or family relationships (for membership)
  • Address, City, State, Province, ZIP/Postal code
  • Phone number
  • School or organization name (for affiliation information)
  • Usage Data (defined below)
  • Credit Card Information (this data is not stored)

 

Online Payments and Transactions

When you perform any of the following transactions online through the website, you will be asked for personal information:

  • Purchase a Delaware Historical Society Membership
  • Make a donation
  • Register for an event (Free and Paid events) *
  • Purchase Admission Tickets
  • Book a Library Reservation
  • Submit payment for a service

We do not process payments through our own e-commerce platform. When you perform any of the above-mentioned transactions online, you exit the Delaware Historical Society website and enter the website of one of our third-party affiliates. Contact information supplied during the checkout process (email, phone, or home/mailing address, not billing address) may be used to let you know about other events or for future communication. To opt-out of this communication or for questions about privacy, please contact deinfo@dehistory.org.

*Credit card information that you provide during purchase is used only to process your payment on these platforms and will not be used for any other purpose. The credit card information is not stored in our system any longer than necessary.

Most registrations and payments for Delaware Historical Society programs are handled through Ticket Tailor (https://www.tickettailor.com/), PayPal (https://www.paypal.com/us/home), DonorPerfect (https://www.donorperfect.com/), Eventbrite (https://www.eventbrite.com/), or Zoom (https://zoom.us/), all of which have independent privacy policies that govern use of personal data collected during a transaction. Surveys and User Reports

We use various types of online forms to collect opinions and feedback. Submitting information is voluntary. If you choose to participate, we or our third-party affiliate(s) will request information, including personal data, as is necessary to process your survey results. In each instance, we will specify the purpose of collecting and intended use of personal data.

We appreciate all comments and feedback from our visitors. If you wish to submit a user feedback report using our contact form, you will be asked for your name and email address followed by questions regarding your feedback. That information will be used to communicate with you on the matter reported.

Usage Data

Automatically Collected Information: Cookies & Web Tracking

In order to provide a quality experience for users, we automatically collect and store Usage data to improve our web design, presentation, and performance. We collect this information from anyone who clicks into, reads, browses, searches, or downloads information from our websites.

Security Measures

As information is collected and transferred over the Internet to our secure server, it is encrypted using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology, the industry standard security technology that is designed to protect sensitive information. We have security measures in place to protect any personal information we collect in accordance with applicable law against the loss, misuse, or alteration of the personal information we’ve stored. Notwithstanding those measures, we cannot 100% guarantee data is safe from being illegally accessed, and personal information being stolen or altered. Any submission of Personal and Usage data is at your own risk.

Your Rights

You always have the right to access and correct the personal information you have provided, and you can withdraw your consent to provide personal information at any time. You may also request to be removed from our contact list. If you want us to erase your personal information, if you would like to withdraw consent to share personal information, or if you do not want to be contacted by us, please let us know by writing to deinfo@dehistory.org.

Photo Policy

We allow, and encourage, our visitors to take pictures for personal, non-commercial use and sharing on social media. Be sure to tag us!

Your private photos cannot be published or used for commercial purposes. For more information or questions about press and photography or image requests, email communications@dehistory.org. For image requests, visit the Research Services page.

Periodically, the Delaware Historical Society takes photographs and videos of visitors and activities for use in promotional and editorial materials. Upon entering Delaware Historical Society premises, you grant the Delaware Historical Society permission to film and photograph you and your dependents. Further, you grant the Delaware Historical Society all rights to use the photographs and video for educational, promotional, advertising, and other purposes that advance the mission of the Delaware Historical Society. The Delaware Historical Society owns the rights to the photographs and video.

Updates to Privacy Policy

DHS reserves the right amend this policy at any time and to make changes anywhere on the website. If we make any substantial changes in the way we use personal information or to our methods of collecting, we will make a prominent announcement on dehistory.org/privacy-policy.
