The history of the railroad industry in Delaware is one of the most significant stories in the understanding of the development of our state. Both the rail car building industry and the influence of the railroad on the development of downstate and the growth of agriculture represent major impacts on the state’s economy, culture, and personality. Simply put, the story of the railroad in Delaware is the backbone that connects Delaware’s industrial north to her agricultural south.

The exhibition was created in conjunction with the reconstruction of Jackson & Sharp Rail Car #102. It includes documents, photographs, artifacts and stories representing Delaware’s railroad past and present. In addition, a special traveling version of the exhibition will be available throughout state at schools, libraries and seniors centers.
