The Historical Society of Delaware maintains a very extensive collection of family history folders for public use. This collection is primarily the result of the generosity of family historians all over the country who’ve kindly donated information over the past several decades. A number of folders are also the result of genealogical research conducted in our library by both staff and patrons. Each family folder contains miscellaneous, mostly unpublished material on one or more family names with Delaware origins. The information is often handwritten and unstructured. Indexed material is rare. Folders are arranged alphabetically and are located in our card catalog room opposite the Society’s genealogical surname file. Both the surname file and the family folders are unique to Historical Society’s collection of genealogical material. A visit to our library is required for in-depth access to our family history folder collection. However, limited analysis and duplication of material in a family folder is a major feature of the standard research service offered by our staff.  For details or a more thorough description of our standard research service please contact our research librarian directly at research@dehistory.org

What follows is a list of last names represented in our family history folder collection. The number displayed to the right represents the approximate amount of pages in the folder. Pages often vary greatly in size and amount of data recorded.
