The Historical Society of Delaware (now Delaware Historical Society) is celebrating the holiday with our newest exhibition entitled Christmas from our Past: Toys and Gift Giving from the 1950s, 60s, and 70s at the Delaware History Museum.  It provides a reminiscent look at Christmas' from the not too long ago past.  Popular toys from each of the aforementioned time periods are on display.  Remember the toys that were all the rage in the 1950s such as hula-hoops, pogo sticks, and the first Barbie dolls.  Later, during the 60s, the must-have items on Christmas lists included GI Joe, troll dolls, and an Easy Bake Oven.  And finally, who can forget how important it was to children in the 70s to receive Sesame Street toys, Atari, and Star Wars figures.

In addition to the toys, the exhibition  features Christmas decorations and living room decor from each of the periods.  The 1950s living room has a Christmas tree complete with colorful "bubble" lights and an American Flyer Train set operating under it.  

The 60s living room is decorated in Flower Power chic complete with a silver tree, blue ornaments and a color wheel casting its glow over the tree.  

Keeping true to the 70s, the predominant colors in this room display are rust and avocado.  The tree is flocked and decorated with gold and white ornaments.
